Last Cast 2024

Last Cast 2024 is PJ’s last blog of the 2024 season

Winter is here and while I’m not fishing much, I’m trying to stay motivated by working through the GAIA casting syllabus. Im also tying flies, and finally getting my Angling Trust level 2 coaching badge. Oh, and building a new website that may be ready for Christmas, maybe.

Talking about Christmas, I’ve produced some gift cards that you can buy online, these are only available in December. If you get one of any denomination, I will apply a 10% discount on the cost of a trip in 2025. Give your loved one a nudge in my direction. click Santa

The title of the blog , last cast of 2024 is inspired by a dinner I attended in deepest darkest Dorset at John Aplin’s place. It was a great setting, lovely food and wonderful people, a bit of fly-culture outside of my usual habitat.

The season ended well with a nice thin lip caught on the last day of the season which was October 15th. It just happened to be a first and therefore the entry ticket to the Mullet club for the capture.

Coaching

I did a bit of coaching at the beginning and end of the season but not as much as I would like. I do enjoy this side of things and will be developing some programs to suit a variety of needs. Whether it be afloat or on the bank. Recently, i got the opportunity to help a youngster who’s going to be a real star if he sticks with it. He’s already succesfully landed Carp, Pike Perch Mullet and Bass on the fly and he’s only just turned 13 years old Watch this space!.

The booking schedule for 2025 is open and I’ll be working on the availability document with the best tides and times for Mullet and Bass. This will be available in due course. I do hope we have less rain this winter so we can start the season earlier than the previous one. I’ll be closed the first two weeks of June as I’m off to Cape Cod chasing Striped Bass.

Wishing you and your loved ones a Merry Christmas and a very happy new season
