PJ’s Rod Sock
An idea borrowed from our Western Australian Flyfishing friends, one of those useful bits of kit that fixes several issues. Protects your flyrods during travel and provides fly rod storage options.
- They allow you to keep your rod and reel to remain set up and ready to use at a moment’s notice.
- Stops rods rattling around in the car which is annoying, and it also protects the blank from impact damage and scratching.
- When used correctly the tip is always protected.
- The sleeve works like the braided loops on your line so it’s possible to hang the rod and reel up while in storage.
- You can hose down your rod and reel in the sleeve, this makes the cleaning process much more efficient and effective and it dries quickly.
The standard sleeve are 25mm wide and stretch to accommodate rod weights from 5 through 8 weights and are between 9ft and 10ft. Custom sizes are available on request, let me know what you need.
So be ready to fish at anytime and protect your kit while travelling to and from the water.
Basic instructions:
With the rod set up for fishing
Remove all the slack line by winding the fly up to the tip ring
Break the rod in two sections and place the tip section against the cork handle
Place the sleeve over the rod sections and then wrap your reel pouch to cover the tip section.
You are now ready to fish or for fly rod storage, you can safely hang the whole setup on a hook in the garage for instance. To do this simply place a cable tie through the braid at the end to form a loop.
